The exam consists of 65 multiple-choice and multiple-answer questions, which you have 3 hours to complete. The passing score is 750 out of 1000. The exam costs $300! However, if you’re considering taking this exam then it’s more than likely that this is not your first exam. If so, be sure to use the 50% discount you get when passing an exam. Study the AWS Documentation

One of the best ways to prepare for the AWS Specialty – Database exam is to study the AWS documentation. The AWS documentation is a rich source of information that covers all aspects of the AWS platform and its associated services.

Make sure you read the documentation thoroughly and take notes on key concepts, terminologies, and best practices. You should also practice using the AWS services by following the examples and tutorials provided in the documentation.

It can also help to cement the theory you’ve been learning by playing around with the AWS console itself and seeing how to setup and configure these services.

Take Practice Tests

Practice tests are probably the most useful resource I utilized to pass the exam myself. Going through these exams and making flashcards on the incorrect answers is a great way to learn some of the nuances of these services that are necessary to know to pass the exam. There are many online resources that provide practice tests for the AWS Specialty – Database exam.

Here are some of my favourties:

Make sure you take multiple practice tests to familiarize yourself with the exam format and types of questions. Analyze your performance on each test and identify areas where you need to improve.

As I said above, making flashcards on incorrect answers and studying those has helped me immensely, but you may work differently.

AWS also provide some sample questions to give you an idea of what you might expect on the actual exam. You can find them here.

Focus on Key Concepts and Best Practices

The AWS Specialty – Database exam is designed to test your understanding of key concepts and best practices in database technologies on AWS. Make sure you have a solid understanding of each of these concepts and how they relate to AWS services.

Some of the key concepts you should focus on include database design, migration, deployment, management, optimization, and security. You should also be familiar with AWS services such as Amazon RDS, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Redshift, and Amazon Aurora.

This exam is long and it can be tiring wading through all these practice exams. Finding keywords and making connections can save you so much time during the exam. This comes with practice, but eventually you’ll get good at noticing which keywords suggest which answer is correct. Often times, I don’t even need to read the question because the keywords in the potential answers give it away. But as I said, this comes with time and practice.

Stay Up-to-Date with the Latest AWS Services and Features

AWS is a constantly evolving platform, and new services and features are being released regularly. Make sure you stay up-to-date with the latest AWS services and features by reading the AWS blog, attending AWS events, and following AWS on social media.

Staying up-to-date with the latest AWS services and features will not only help you pass the exam, but it will also help you become a better AWS practitioner.

Conclusion – AWS Specialty – Database Exam

Passing the AWS Specialty – Database exam is not an easy task, but with the right preparation and mindset, it can be done. Make sure you understand the exam format and topics, study the AWS documentation, take practice tests, focus on key concepts and best practices, and stay up-to-date with the latest AWS services and features.
